Tattoo Art by Eric Adkins, Columbus, OH

Michael’s Tattoo

Michael’s Tattoo was designed by Eric Adkins of Columbus, Ohio. When I finished the first draft of THE GUARDIAN’S PLAYLIST, it took so much out of me, I needed something to fill the hole.  I wanted something tangible–besides the beastly, first draft’s 190,000 word manuscript–to show for my efforts.  I wanted a drawing of Michael’s tattoo.  So I surfed through tsunamis of tattoo art portfolios in the Columbus area. Several caught my eye with their sinuous, intricately crafted, gray-scale compositions.

So I called the Artists.

Here’s what I got:  you want me to do what?

A book character was apparently not on their list of preferred, tattoo-worthy clients.  Fortunately, Eric was game.  Eric’s dark art was perfect for the novel, but it was his sketches of roots and vines that hooked me.  They sparked a new theme in the novel: the ties that hold us down on earth, the ones that keep us shackled to the material and evanescent.  It inspired the hilt of the sword and Michael’s eventual mastery over his bindings.

I love the result!

Stay tuned for the TATTOO ART that will grace the cover of Book 3.
